Washington has worn me out

and my brush with the law

I am whacked and my feet hurt soooooo much. I reckon I have walked a minimum of 10 miles today and my feet are crying out for some trainers, I might try get some in new york day after next!

So I left the hotel but for some reason my usual sense of direction is off key. I'm blaming the tiredness or the jet lag. Considering I've not had any proper sleep I dont feel all that tired! It's almost midnight, 4.51 in England and by rights my body should be well confused, but its no more confused than normal.

Anyway, armed with my factor 30, I left the hotel in the hope of going to Arlington cemetary, except I never made it because the map confused me, so I ended up walking all these trails and cycle paths and after at least an hour found a Metro station (lesson learnt)!

After grabbing a slice of pizza, I headed straight towards the White House as time was ticking and I needed to tick something off my list! I saw it from the north lawn (back first) and then the front. All government buildings are cordened off and have police guarding them. I started to head down the road to cross when a police car came by me and said "Miss, I'm gonna have to ask you to go back on the sidewalk" all very bizarre!

I then headed to the Washington moument. You can see it from everywhere, its 555 feet high! It was pretty impressive. I then walkede up the Mall. It seems a short distance on paper, but when you're walking it, in heat, it aint no picnic!

I stopped at the Horshorn sculpture garden which wa really good and also put a message on the peace tree donated by Yoko Ono.

Then I headed towards Capitol building and the supreme court. All the buildings seem massive, much bigger than anywhere in London, then on to Union station which was pretty impressive inside, especially the building.

I then got the metro to Smithsonian, and walked to the war (2nd world war, Korean and Vietnam) and Lincoln memorials. They were all beautiful and thought provoking. It was getting dark so some of my pictures dont give them justice and Lincoln was huge. All I kept thinking was about Team America. When you see the statues and everything, it shows just how much that film takes the piss of America, I wonder do they find it as funny as I do?

I then had a sit down for a bit, but then realised I was so tired my legs no longer worked so it was time to a find somewhere to eat, b find a shop to buy supplies or c find a metro. I called Rich to wish him a safe flight to Zante and also spoke to the girls (I still didnt tell him I love him though ha)!

Took me about a mile (past the White House in the dark for more pics) and got the Metro home. Was going to buy something nice to eat, but I ended up with crisps anf cup cakes from the vending machine whilst watching pretty woman! AND I have free wi-fi...bonus!

So in a nutshell, a good but tiring day, didnt do everything I had hoped so I am going to set my alarm early and try get as much done before I leave for Philly...

PS I was hoping for nice toilettries, but they are coconut! One is not amused!!!

After the bus and then metro, I found myself walking up and down trying to find my hotel, eventually I did and have checked in.

After the long travel

After the long travel

Quick change (its way too hot for jeans, a dress me thinks) and then up to 17th floor to see what I can see then off to see stuff!

I can't quite believe I am here, seems weird. When I was on the plane watching people, it made me feel like I was on the set of Lost and then I had a dream I was dreaming, all very Inception.

On the metro and aeroplane, there were a lot of Americans talking...quite annoying already! Although, everyone is very friendly, now I know how Bristol must feel about me and my accent!!!

Getting hungry too, it's only 1.50 here so a spot of late lunch me thinks. I also saw an advert for Salt, so might try catch that over the next few days to occupy my evening.

Off for a shower and then off to explore...

Je suis arrive

Hello Washington DC

After arriving at the gate feeling calm abd ready for the sleep, panic as they called out my name. Got to the desk to find they were just allocating my window (phew) next to the right side window...amazing...best place to be what with my dodgy right eye.

Got on the plane, jealous walking through 1st and business class (I wantg to lie downnnnn), then sat down.

Next thing I knew, we were taking off, seems I'b been asleep and it woke me up. Slept all the way only waking to eat. Stayed awake for the last hour or so and read some og my book (Her fearful symmetry by Audrey Niffeneger, been saving it for months...so far so good).

Getting off the plane and onto the bus to terminal. Was a bit surreal, everyone was sat facing each other like on the tube and on their phones. I thought how it was 'only in America', but then it could be anywhere and most airports look the same anyway!

There was a problem with the computers so it took me agesto get through passport control. My flight was mostly US, so standing in a queue full of Koreans (as there had been a Korean airways flight landing at the same tim, their hostesses look amazing in their uniform, if its one thing Asia gets right its that!) and almost last through. At least I didnt have to wait for my luggage, it was waiting for me.

Got through into the terminal...straight in front was a Starbucks, you can't write this shit! And Stevie Wonder playing in the background! Made my way outside which seems to be about 30-35 degrees, so sunnys on and hoody off!

I am currently on the bus to downdown DC (which is about 26 miles) and try my luck at checking into the hotel early and mooch down to see the President for tea...

The holiday seems to have started

Sitting at Heathrow waiting for my gate to open

rain

Thats it, I had my last day at work and then took hours to pack even though I was packed!

Looking at the stuff on the floor looked twice as big as my bag, but somehow it all went in and seemed to weigh about 20kg...all good.

Rich was sleeping on the sofa due to the chaos of my bedroom, but I finally set my alarm for 2.45 when getting into bed at almost midnight, then I couldnt get to sleep.

Not sure if I slept through my alarm but woke up at 3.36 in a panic, got ready and we were on our way at about 3.50. Rich seemed tired so I stayed awake to talk to him and it was raining which wasnt good.

Bristol to Heathrow -> 1 hour 10 mins (which Rich seemed please about). Getting through the passport check was a farce and dis-organised, but once that was over, a quick trip to Costa for a drink and recharge for Rich and then a big kiss and cuddle (but no tears) to say ciao to Rich, going to really miss him and wish he was sharing the adventure...maybe next time!

Anyway, got through security and mooched round the shops...Rich called to tell me to chill and have fun (my nerves are kicking in a bit), but then told me off for not telling I love him in public, which is making me smile, some things won't change!

Anyway, I'm off to gate 46 to catch the big airbus over the atlantic....
